Who Are We?
Save The Cats Inc. is a non- profit organization dedicated to helping the stray cat population of Bucks County Pennsylvania. We believe that educating the public about spaying, neutering, and responsible pet ownership, is the key to reducing the stray cat population. Since our infancy, our group has rescued, placed, and spayed thousands of felines. We are on a continuous mission to help as many cats as possible.
How Do We Help?
Our volunteers rescue and temporarily foster homeless cats and kittens until they can be placed into loving homes. We firmly believe in spaying and neutering any animal that is old enough to have surgery. Thanks to local veterinarians, pet stores and local spay/neuter assistance programs, we have been able to make a marked difference in the lives of many cats who would otherwise be on the streets struggling to survive.
There are an estimated 30-50 million feral cats (cats born in the wild) in the United States. These cats are the offspring of domestic cats that were either abandoned or lost, and not neutered/spayed. They can be found in parks, forests, behind restaurants and business. Colonies can contain hundreds of cats and kittens. Feral cats do not have an easy life. Most have a life span of about 2-3 years and can die horrible deaths from starvation, getting hit by cars or being eaten by other wild animals. A great number of cats also die by contracting diseases such as leukemia, FIV, FIP, respiratory infections and others. In addition, there are millions of abandoned house cats that are either dumped outside or taken to local shelters. Each year there are an estimated 5-10 million animals put to death in our nations shelters. It is our belief that spaying or neutering your cat/kitten can significantly lower the number of feral cats in the wild. It can also invariably reduce the number of felines put to death in our shelters.
What Is Needed?
Donations of supplies such as litter, low ash/magnesium food, toys, food dishes, litter boxes, etc. are greatly needed. Monetary donations are always appreciated as well.
In order to continue to make a difference, Save The Cats is in desperate need of volunteers as well as donations. As a volunteer, you may be able to help trap, tame, or feed cats from various colonies. You may be able to foster kittens/cats until a suitable home can be found for them. Or, you may be able to network to help find and place kittens in new homes. All potential homes are screened thoroughly and vet references are required.
Our organization is currently working on locating a facility to house cats/kittens until they can be placed in homes. We hope to be able to have a facility within the next few years. Currently our strays are being fostered at the homes of our volunteers. Thank you for your support and concern!
